How to Delete Media items from the Media Library
Last Updated a year ago

Deleting media items from the Media Library in WordPress is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to delete a media item:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click on "Media" in the sidebar menu.
  3. Select the media item you want to delete.
  4. Click on the "Delete Permanently" button in the right-hand sidebar.
  5. Confirm that you want to delete the media item by clicking "OK" on the confirmation popup.

Once you have deleted a media item from the Media Library, it will no longer be available on your website. However, it's important to note that if the media item is used on any pages or posts on your website, those pages or posts will display a broken image or video link.

If you want to remove a media item from a page or post without deleting it from the Media Library, simply remove the media item from the page or post content. This will remove the item from the page or post, but it will still be available in the Media Library for future use.

In addition to deleting media items one by one, you can also use bulk actions to delete multiple media items at once. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click on "Media" in the sidebar menu.
  3. Check the boxes next to the media items you want to delete.
  4. Click on the "Bulk Actions" dropdown menu and select "Delete Permanently."
  5. Click the "Apply" button to delete the selected media items.

It's important to note that deleting media items from the Media Library will permanently remove them from your website. Be sure to double-check before you delete any media items to avoid accidentally removing something you need.
